DRIVING IN EUROPE AFTER JANUARY 1st 2021
The UK formally left the European Union on 31 January 2020.
Uncertainty remains on whether a Free Trade Agreement will be in place following the end of the Transition Period on 31 December 2020. On or after 1 January 2021, Isle of Man and UK motor insurance customers driving in the European Economic Area, Andorra, Serbia and Switzerland will need physical proof of motor insurance when they travel, commonly referred to as a Green Card, if no agreement is reached.
It is important to note that travel in Southern Ireland is also subject to this requirement as it remains part of the EEA.
In preparation for this we’ve reviewed our processes for the fulfilment of Green Cards to make sure we’re well placed to deliver the service you. This update outlines the processes now in place to meet your needs so you're well prepared from 1 January 2021.
For our most popular policies, the CTH Motor and CTH Bike policies, we have agreed with our Underwriters that an annual Green Card will be issued. For any other policy, you will need to contact us for a Green Card.

Most policies offer free cover for EU travel to extend to the same you have in your home territory but this is on prior arrangement as the period of cover is limited and must be agreed and accepted.
